Heartspiration: The Moms in the Trenches Meetup in St. Pete
Motherhood is not for the faint of heart. Some days it’s grueling. Others it’s amazing. Sometimes you get both experiences in one day, and sometimes it’s minute to minute, changing as fast as the weather does on a summer afternoon in Florida. When myself, Kelly Albrecht and Megan Nelson all got together to chat about the possibility of creating and leading a new Moms group, it was clear that each of us had our own struggles unique to us, but similar in a lot of ways too; threaded together by the common challenges, worries, fears, and doubts that it seems all of us Moms have and experience at some point.
We all know from our own personal experiences just how important it is to be supported during those early moments of Momming, in the postpartum period. Most of us think about the postpartum period as the first few months after we have our babies, but it is now really being referred to and recognized as the first year of life after baby comes. Truly, we’re all “postpartum” whether our babies are 3 months, 3 years or even 30 years old. ;)
But those first few months and that first year is when we are learning to be Mamas, healing, growing, experiencing so much physically, emotionally and more. And we wanted to create a space that allowed Moms to come in and set down their worries, challenges, and struggles, and to be supported through community, connection and resources. Hence, the collaboration and “birth” of Moms in the Trenches on Tuesdays at 10am at The Littlest Trunk. Here’s a little bit about each of us and our passion for Moms and this Meetup.
Kelly Albrecht: Mama & LMHC
Kelly Albrecht likes to refer to herself as "a Mommy counselor." She is a Mommy and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in St. Pete and has a passion for, and training in Perinatal Mental Health. She is honored to work with Moms and their partners regarding fertility challenges, losses, pregnancy, and postpartum (including birth trauma). Kelly was a counselor before becoming a Mom and loved working with Moms prior, but still had no idea the personal challenges she would face in her own journey to becoming a Mom and in daily life with a little one. With both personal and professional experience, Kelly hopes to encourage the awesome Mamas who come to Moms in The Trenches Meetup at The Littlest Trunk.

Dawn Herring: Mama, Childbirth Educator, Birth and Postpartum Doula
Dawn Herring is a childbirth educator, birth and postpartum doula. If she could sum herself up she’d say she’s an “Empowerer of Mamas.” She believes that pregnancy, childbirth and Momming are incredibly transformative times in our lives, and that in order to grow through these times with grace and compassion, that it takes support and community. She struggled with postpartum anxiety during her early Momming days and beyond, and believes that part of that was due to a lack of having the right community around her. She has led Moms groups around the Tampa Bay area, and is delighted to lead this group at the Littlest Trunk. Her personal experience in addition to serving many women in birth and postpartum lends to her warmth, compassion, and heart for encouraging and supporting new Mamas on their journey.

Megan Nelson: Mama, Owner of The Littlest Trunk, Nurse Practitioner
Megan Nelson owns and runs The Littlest Trunk in St. Pete, a fun and fresh resale boutique for kids and moms conveniently located in the heart of St. Petersburg. She moved into the space not only because of it's size and what it had to offer retail-wise, but also because of the beautiful space she has now converted into her community room. She wanted to be able to host event, meetups, and other activities for families to enjoy, and has been doing just that. If you've ever met her, you know that she'll lend an ear, offer support and encouragement if needed, and that's a big part of why she's delighted to now be hosting the Moms in the Trenches Meetups. Megan also served families as a Nurse Practitioner for over 17 years. She has a compassionate and loving heart and will also lead these groups from time to time.
